My mother in law lives in nearby Prospect and since she was the driver recommended this place as she had been here before and enjoyed it. Personally I would have rather gone down to the street to the Union Street Café, but that is because we like grills and pubs and she does not.

On first appearances, it looks like this place is going to be run down and a bit of a dive, so was surprised when she recommended it.

When we walked in I was pleasantly surprised as the inside looked like it had been recently renovated. The restaurant was spacious and had several booths to sit in although none were available at the time. The place really lacked any kind of décor though as the walls were bare and it was just tables and booths without anything to dress them up. We sat down and were promptly greeted and provided with menus although this is a seat yourself type of restaurant. There really isn’t a need for a hostess, as you can see the entire restaurant when you first walk in. The only minor complaint was that the room was a little on the cool side, which is alright for me however my companions did not enjoy it.

I debated between the haddock bites, hamburger, and the wrap and had initially decided on the hamburger. After I gave my order, I changed my mind and went with the wrap instead which she happily changed for me. When the meals came, I wished that had ordered the haddock bites as they were not at all what was expected. Instead of being battered and deep fried they were breaded and looked like they had been pan fried. They may not have been, but were lightly breaded so you could actually taste the fish instead. My wrap was good, and there was a generous helping of fries so I was enjoyably surprised and was unable to finish them all and still feel comfortable. I am not sure what the food was like at the previous location, or under the old ownership however we did enjoy our meal.

Our server seemed to kind of hover, and was already asking for our orders while our third party hadn’t even returned from the washroom. Also, my second glass of water lacked a lemon which I had expected would come with it. Again when I asked the server to bring a lemon, she promptly brought my request. Washrooms were nice, and clean and had touch less taps and a VERY shallow sink. The spout sprayed water instead of a steady stream which got all over the back of the sink.
