Best chinese food in armstrong

Staff has gone above and beyond for our extended family many times this year! I live in eastern Canada and the restaurant has used personal accounts for me to pay for my elderly parents orders twice! They love the food there, but enjoy eating in as they “see” many friends within the community which they haven’t been able to do. The staff and management most recently experiencing delivery delays on top of COVID restrictions still managed to maintain the function of their restaurant through a brilliant takeout system when many “multi million” dollars corporations in the area are shutting down… my parents have been missing their “A&W” breaky in Armstrong this week apparently and decided during to grab a burger with a recent Home Depot visit only to find the Red Robin closed as well… interesting how a small family run business can still operate and maintain staff and these other places can not… hmmm…

We had a ridiculously long wait for takeout on Saturday nigh. over an hour for a family meal for 4, but the food was delicious and the staff gave me a bit of clarity in their situation. At the time we ordered shortly before 5, the wait was for 6:15 and they explained that they had almost 30 orders before ours. I did the math, if the orders were for an average of 3 people, that means they’d have to make 90+ dishes before our order was made. I get it. I waited.

Delicious 😋

The Great Wall has the worst Chinese food that I have ever eaten. The food is bland, the ingredients are cheap an it all tasted the same. I had to pour on soy sauce to get through it.
Example, the Chicken chow mein had few bean sprouts , few other veggies, but lots of those cheap noodles, with some cooked chicken dumped on top.
And it is overprices for the quality of the food.
I moved to Armstrong 4 years ago , ate here once, and stayed away until this year - hoping it would have improved. Nope.
Come on - get a real cook. I could do better!

Was expecting dine-in, but was greeted with friendly, communicative staff that are experiencing a unique “shut down” experience... this restaurant provided delicious takeout at a reasonable price.... although they would like to open up, COVID, customers, and community have dampered their resources... would love to experience them again when we travel through next!

I have only had take out but the food is great. Love this place.

Unlike some of these down right RUDE and nasty comments, I love this Chinese restaurant. One rating had the nerve to say the restaurant was lazy, meanwhile saying they themselves were lazy to drive the additional 12-15 minutes lol. Another rude commenter saying it doesn’t compare to Vancouver!?! I have seen some of the dingiest hole in the wall places in Vancouver!
I am from Enderby and do miss Crystal Gardens. However, the Chinese food in Armstrong has never let me down. I think it’s better than anywhere in Vernon or Salmon Arm. The prices are good and the staff is always friendly.

Excellent good good service

Phoned in order, picked up 45 minutes later. Plenty for 2 adults, thoroughly enjoyed. Only negatives, 1 napkin, 1 fortune cookie for 2 people. maybe they didn't realize we were a couple sharing?

Amazing food, very friendly and prompt service... I watched the server attend to multiple phone calls, takeout, table service, meet and greets etc. without fail and always a smile... it was a wonderful experience! Food is always hot, huge, and hearty. Faves are the Wonton Soup, both Regular and Wor... as well as the “Special” combo for one... we have also really enjoyed the buffet on the weekends and when we’re feeling “fancy”, we order the seafood with black bean sauce and the Cantonese chow mein... both are to die for!
Just an FYI... this “menupix” menu is about a thousand years old and/or not from The Great Wall in at least the last 15-20 years...

Best restaurant ever

Maybe because we had the best Chinese Food at the Crystal Garden when Alfred was Chef, that the Great Wall just cannot compare. However, because I refuse to drive all the way to Vernon or Salmon Arm to get a more decent quality, The Great Wall will do.
With that being said, the service is always friendly and prompt but the temperature there is uncomfortable; I think they save on money by not turning on the heat or heated water for bathrooms to wash. They use duct tape to repair broken mirror, so looks tacky and gives a vibe that maybe the owner doesn't have much pride in the business, but like I said, it will do... in times of pure laziness.
So if you don't mind two star quality, take out is the best way to go, you can go eat in the comforts of a heated home, where it is quiet and you can wash up with heated water on these cold winter days; which I am about to do right now. Enjoy!

Lower standard food. Canadian Chinese boaring run down inside Nothing authentic lower mainland and Richmond Chinese food is excellent compared to this food. Service slow. Would not recommend

Good Chinese food prepared quickly. It's more Canadian Chinese than what I prefer but still good.

One of my favorites in this area!!
Hands down no comparison...The food is GREAT
The food is authentic and even though the restaurant has older decor...it's a comfortable atmosphere

Sorry to the locals that love this place. I just dont get it. Since the Crystal Gardens in Enderby changed hands, we have been trying to find good Chinese food. The Great wall isnt it. The food was bland, all tasted the same. and yes, its pretty run down. Time to redo the tile floors for sure.
We wont eat here again.

Food is amazing and service is good!

Contrary to Mr. Barf's review, The Great Wall Restaurant fits well with your standard older Chinese Restaurants. The decor is pleasant while also not excessive in your face. Some of the patrons are obese because it is located in a Farming Community. The food itself, is excellent. I have been to many Chinese Restaurants but I am still unable to find better tasting and/or better quality food than what The Great Wall Restaurant serves. I can't recommend it enough!

Food is your average Canadian Chinese. Decor is terrible. Chairs and counters are worn out. How can you possibly sanitize properly? Food is low quality because you look at patrons and they are grossly obese. Owners obviously do not invest in their own business or care.
