A party of four ladies stopped at The Wharf while holidaying in Port Stanley at the end of June 2013. Their order included an appetizer of mussels. The order arrived and half the mussels were closed and the mussels smelled “off”. One of the ladies called over the waiter who then called over the manager. An argument ensued as to who know more about mussels. The ladies were experienced restaurateurs and refused to eat or pay for bad mussels. The manager phoned the police (OPP) while the ladies waited. Hard to believe however police officers actually showed up at The Wharf to answer this call. The police told the guests they had to pay as they had ordered the mussels. The police explained to the ladies that as customers and after paying, they would have a civil action against The Wharf for the bad food.
There are several points to be made. Firstly, The Wharf has no qualms about selling food that could potentially poison its guests. Reason enough not to go there. Secondly, The Wharf has no concept of customer service or even basic restaurant practice. And finally, any and all tourists should avoid Port Stanley as it is apparent that the local police force has nothing better to do then collect bills on behalf of local restaurants selling bad food. calgreedy@gmail.com
