This locally owned establishment, which has been in operation for nearly three decades, has recently undergone a change in ownership. Since the transition, the restaurant has shown signs of improvement and has reinstated its reputation for serving delicious Mexican dishes. Despite occasional inconsistencies in service, the quality of the food, such as the Cavanaugh Special with chicken, and the convenience of now accepting debit/credit cards without a minimum order make it a worthwhile dining option in town.

I have been a customer of Chico's for over 20 years. While the economy has effected all businesses, Chico's is still a Fav. I have offered (years ago) Randy 2 grand to get his sauce recipes etc. and it is under new management, I hear. This offer still stands if they want to expand into Carlyle. There is an open small business that could easily be turned into a taco place. Let's talk.

This was a favorite of my family's for many years. When I lived in Effingham I. 2004, I would go to chicos to get my two favorites; Taco Salad Supreme and the Sancho.
They have changed the Taco Salad Supreme so much now, that it's not worth getting any more.
The bowl used to be as big as the box! There was a lot of all the I gredients. They eventually made it where it was basically lettuce. They changed the size of the bowl and now they even changed something about the shell, it doesn't taste as good and doesn't break off like it used to.
The Sancho, it's now maybe half the size it used to be. No longer my favorite place.

New owners have restored Chico's! The menu has been expanded and the quality improved! It is definitely a local favorite!

Chico's has been restored by the new owner. The building has been updated and the food quality is much improved. They have expanded the menu, but have maintained the old favorites! Chico's is a local favorite and now carries Ski products to drink. It doesn't get much better than that! Welcome back, Chico's!

Being born and raised in Salem, I've eaten here for quite a long time! However, in recent years the quality of the food has greatly diminished! The owner is extremely cheap and this has directly effected the quality of the food he produces! One of the biggest changes he has recently enacted is the weird and expensive way to pay with debit cards! So if you're in a hurry to grab lunch and order $5 worth of food, you must pay a $1.55 debit transaction fee, in addition to a $2.50 'other transaction fee'! How about they just accept cash only? I recommend you go across town to Taco Bell!
