Went into Dean's Grill expecting a pleasant dining experience... I LOVE Grilles--was so happy when I found the place and since I live in the area figured I would be back to frequent the joint and make it my second home... Well I ordered my burger medium-rare and my husband placed his order as well... The order arrived in stages... the first disappointment was the pitiful sprinkling of french fries on the plate which were served cold, (there were only a few patrons in the place and wasn't sure how they could manage to mess the order up so easily) With a heavy sigh and not wanting to cause any grief, I just decided to dig into the burger...well the burger was WAY over done, and I understand that many establishments these days aren't willing to take any heat on the risks associated with less than FULLY cooked ground beef, but then WHY DID THEY ASK ME IN THE FIRST PLACE HOW I WANTED MY BURGER? (if this was not their policy, they should have STATED that, instead of inviting me to dictate how I would like it... When we looked for the young waitress (who was friendly--yet a bit ditzy with that deer in the headlights look) to come remedy the situation, the owner's wife came over directly after hearing part of the conversation...A good thing, you would THINK... however she came over and went ballistic on us!!! I couldn't believe someone in management/ownership level would behave that way..
In a very loud and terse tone she started chastising us, and then turned on her heel with the plate, her speed and exaggerated motions flinging a ketchup covered french fry onto the sleeve of my blouse... Her husband (Dean) came out from behind the 'wall" snatched the plate out of her hand and made a big show of throwing the contents into the dumpster. I thought WOW, these people are coming unglued and it was my opinion that they REALLY SHOULD NOT BE INVOLVED IN A 'SERVICE' BUSINESS... Some poor short order cook guy looked visibly shaken as Dean ordered him to cook another burger plate up. (all of this within ear-shot of any patron.... (OK, so there were only 7 of us in the place at the time,)
I also thought the pricing structure was a bit HIGH considering it was a grill, and from my growing up experience, a grill was a place you could frequent without spending an arm and a leg...
On a positive note (before I became disillusioned with all the snarly treatment from the ownership) I thought the place looked bright and clean; nice woods on the tables and chairs and a pretty color scheme.
Not sure how long they will last though, as if the owners don't already know that hostile customer 'service' doesn't cut it, who is going to teach them? (and by the way ... WE DIDN"T TOTE ANY CHILDREN with us that seems to be a bee in their bonnet!!!)
