The Smart Museum on the University of Chicago campus offers a compact but diverse collection of contemporary and classic artworks, including rotating exhibitions like Bob Thompson's retrospective and pieces by Nick Cave and Wolf Vostell. Admission is free, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and while the museum is small, it provides a thoughtful and engaging experience without the crowds typical of larger institutions.

During my recent visit to the Smart Museum at the University of Chicago, I encountered a somewhat overbearing art attendant who insisted on maintaining a close watch over my wife and me, instructing us to admire the art from a distance. Despite this, the exhibition itself was truly captivating, offering a diverse range of thought-provoking pieces to explore. The museum's intimate setting and the engaging mix of contemporary and classic works made for a unique and enjoyable experience.
