01/01/2008 - a regular guy
I went to this restaurant for the first time last night, for new years. Also new to fondue, I was looking forward to the experience. Upon entry, I liked the look of the small, underground place. With only 15 tables or so, I felt lucky to get a last minute reservation.
Our seat was right by the window (good), but also right by the speaker (bad). For some reason, loud techno music was playing. Our waitress, who was great, let me know that it was management's music selection, and that one table had already complained and been ignored by her boss. So I asked to speak to him, thinking that maybe a 2nd out of the 15 tables would make a difference. He came by and informed me that it was party music to celebrate the new year. i told him politely that i was there to eat and have conversation, not to dance. we compromised on turning it down, which is acceptable, even for the $200+ meal i was having with my girlfriend. but as the night went on it was clear that the volume adjusted back to the level it was at before. I have never been to a restaurant with such disregard for their paying customers, and the food isn't good enough to stand alone. i didn't tip the waitress poorly since it wasn't her fault, but I will make sure never to go there again, and will let as many people know as possible. Avenue 1, Zephyr, and Evoo are all alternative fondue options, without the attitude.
