Attended an event in Shively KY last Nov '09,and dropped in the Moby Dick by chance for a quick lunch with two friends. We were slightly put off by the appearance of the building, kind of seedy looking with some missing letters on the "MOBY DICK" logo, but we also noticed a line at the drive-up window, and decided to go in.We immediately noticed that though old, the restaurant was VERY clean, floors freshly mopped, no trash on the floor. The young ladies behind the counter were polite and friendly. When asked their recommendation for a good fish sandwich, they immediately suggested "The Whale", their best seller. It is a GIANT whitefish on your choice of bun or bread and your choice of dressings and condiments. As a side they suggested onion rings. Although the procedure would have you stay at the counter and wait for your food ,they told us to be seated and they would bring our meals out to us. After a short time out came our sandwiches and rings and they were superb, both hot and crispy, the rings appeared to be hand breaded, and the fish sandwich was huge with a light, fresh flavor! Drink refillscame quickly (great sweet tea)and the whole meal was just excellent! Restrooms were old but very clean. I don't know if this great experience was typical, or the result of a good manager on a good day, but we all were very impressed, and we each gave the girls a pretty handsome tip. When was the last time you felt like doing that at McDonalds? So, don't be put off by the appearance of the outside of the building, just go in and have the best fish sandwich you've had in awhile! I can't wait for my next chance to stop in!
