Los Tres Amigos offers some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted. Whenever I'm in the area, I make sure to stop by for their amazing Shrimp Cocktail, which is perfect for sharing. The homemade corn tortillas and Barbacoa are my favorite choices from their menu. Despite the occasional influx of travelers, the experience and flavors at Los Tres Amigos are truly worth the visit.

El Ranchito in Tickfaw Louisiana, just about 5 miles north of Hammond on LA HWY 51, is without a doubt a MEGA-TREAT for diners seeking an truly authentic foreign food experience. With an aroma and ambiance that makes you feel as though you've just strolled into a restaurant in downtown Mexico City, the varieties and flavors of REAL Mexican food available are exquisite. El Ranchito is wholly owned, operated, and staffed by Mexican Americans, and--although English will suffice to order and pay, don't count on any "conversation" as--Spanish is the language of the staff. Having dined at El Ranchito three times now, we have found their various moderately priced combination meals to be excellent. For beginners, I strongly recommend a "burrito," (beef, chicken, or pork) as it is a meal all-in-one. The "Burrito Puerco," or pork variety, includes delicious sauteed sliced pork, with rice, beans, freshly sliced avocado, sour cream, green chili sauce and red gravy. One burrito is a GORGE for one person, or a fine and generous meal for two--and at $5.00, it is a "real" DEAL, too! Regardless of what you order, I think that you will be very pleasantly surprised. Beer prices for Tecate, Negro Modello, Carta Blanca, and other available genuine Mexican beers are about $3.50 per bottle, but the restaurant staff will allow you to bring in your own. Or, do as we do and take it home! Whether you eat it there, or take it home, El Ranchito will become one of your favorites once you've tried it. (July 28, 2009).
