I can't emphasize enough how much I miss the Railway Cafe. I even resented it when the name of the restaurant was changed. It was appropriately named as they're next to a railroad crossing. They had the most wonderful Thanksgiving buffet the last year they were there. I think they were there into the next year following the holidays. I'd been feeling sad on the Thanksgiving holiday in the years since my mother's death. My spirits were uplifted considerably and immeasurably when I enjoyed their almost unbelievable and bountiful feast. I thought about all the time and effort it took to prepare such a meal and I was sorry for all the people that didn't know about it. They went above and beyond my expections. I also loved their macaroni & cheese when they had it as a special. I asked the waitress how it was made, and she went to the kitchen and asked. It had two kinds of cheese (sharp white cheddar and American) and they stressed, "Be sure to use salted butter." I think it had a bread topping. It was much like my mother's. She just used a simple recipe on the back of the Prince elbow macaroni box. I also liked their haddock, soups and their steak & cheese sandwich. They were famous for their desserts (pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, etc). I haven't had a good Thanksgiving meal since that last Thanksgiving buffet at the Railway Cafe. They were one of a handful of restaurants that I can honestly say I've enjoyed. It was a labor of love.

French fries were so over cooked they were black. Three of us ordered chicken fingers with two of the meals the chicken was very over cooked. This is the third time in two months that I have gone back thinking new cook. I'm done .
It took 50 minutes from when we ordered to when we got own meals. Except for the one order of chicken fingers that that they didn't burn but that meal came out 15 minutes after everyone else had theirs.

This USED to be a fabulous restaurant until new owners took over. Have had a couple of poor meals with inflated prices, but thought we'd give it another shot for St. Patrick's Day. How could you ruin a corned beef dinner? There were 3 waitresses and we were the ONLY customers. Had a very long wait to even get a menu. Once we placed our order for the special which was boiled dinner, we waited and waited. The waitress had to be asked to bring sharp knives. There was no butter, no rolls, no vinegar, etc. You needed a chainsaw to cut the corned beef and if you were unlucky enough to get a piece cut off, you couldn't chew it. No waitress EVER returned to our table. Another two people came in after we did. They ordered cheeseburgers and were still waiting a half hour later when we left. We left money and a note. The only person getting any attention was a toddler who was running around the kitchen and in and out of the BAR! A woman came in to order a salad for takeout and she had been standing for an incredibly long time too without being waited on. THUMBS DOWN on this place. Sure wish the old owners would take the restaurant back. At least we know why there were NO cars there at lunchtime!!!!

We order out on a fairly regular basis from the Railway Cafe and it always amazes me that they can provide a rare steak without having it overcooked by the time it reaches my house. Their portions are generous and delicious. We love them!
