El Portal has been a regular spot for me over the years, offering reliable San Diego Mexican cuisine without rice-filled burritos. The massive plate of nachos is a standout, and the caldo de res soup is a unique option worth trying. While the carnitas burrito leaned more towards cubed pork chop style, the overall flavor was satisfying and the service was good.
