The difficulties about rating Alfredo's fairly is that people often overlook the fact that it's a tiny 3-4 table, sub-shop looking, one man show. He is able to offer a real taste of Italy thru a tiny literally wall-in-the-hole shop and charges at very reasonable prices. So I think the standard applied here should not come from the same perspective of "North End Standard". Personally, I think North End is good at "WOW-ing" customers with decoration, music and high priced menu, but the quality is no more than average.

Back to Alfredo's, I have never used his deliver service, because like most good restaurants I enjoy, the food is just not the same after being packaged and delivered... But every single time I dined there, I find myself highly satisfied with the experience Alfredo is able to offer. First of all, Alfredo's menu, while it's simple and almost humble, it offers a decent variety of authentic Italian meals. Some of the sandwiches or pasta may seem over simplified with not a lot of "stuff" in it, however correctly reflects how Italians (IN ITALY) actually eat their food. Secondly, apart from the authenticity, Alfredo is very capable at producing amazing flavors in short period of time and all the food is homemade and fresh--and the portions are huge, I never finish the pasta, it's good for 2 meals. Thirdly, I like to commend on the atmosphere of the restaurant. I think Alfredo made a good effort turing that little shoe-box of a store into an authentic looking Italian cafe. The tables and chairs he uses, the decorations he put up really warmed up the place. The inside is nothing like what one would expect passing through from outside. The only downside is that it is very small, it gets crowded at times and I don't always like to sit so close to other people while i eat...but I am totally willing to sacrifice my personal preference for the food there.

Last but not least, I often read/heard about people complain that Alfredo can't speak clearly and his attitude is bad...etc etc. Well, guess what everyone? I think he's a super friendly, warm and funny typical Italian. Yes he speaks fast with heavy accent, because he didn't move to the U.S. until 2000, English is far from being his first language (hardly is it even second I'd say), and just in case you don't know this, Italians (from Italy) speaks super fast. As for his attitude, I think the poor English skill made a lot of people uncomfortable and criticize him for having bad attitude because of miscommunication. Plus, give him a break, he has to be the waiter, the cook, the server, the cleaner...all by himself, he's probably too busy/tired to realize that he's not "pleasing" you. If you ever have the chance to eat there and happen to be interested in sports you should try to talk to him about it, He gets so excited and you'll find that he's actually a very nice guy!

The food is simply great. The flavors are authentic, the portions are generous, and you just can't stop going back for more. The owner makes everything himself, food is fresh and delicious. Although the venue is small, the owner keeps it clean and it's honestly very cute.

Replying to Mae:

Alfredo speaks ITALIAN- and he says "That's it?" after each order just to make sure got everything. He is very nice and makes fantastic food from scratch!

If you want authentic Italian food, at a very modest price, Alfredo's is definitely the way to go. The food is great because Alfredo is Italian, and i have never had a problem ordering on the phone. Alfredo is always pleasant when I pick up my food, and delivery is fast. (although: The guy who delivers is not the same guy as on the phone.)

The lobster ravioli's are my favorite in the city (including the North End) and they are only $10! Alfredo's is a hidden GEM!

so today was my first time ordering from alfredo's after reading all the good reviews online. i asked for an order for delivery and could not understand what the guy was saying. i told him 3 times what the address was, and all he kept saying was "directions?" so i attempted to give him directions. so anyways i order my margarita pizza and say "that's it" and he says "that's it? oh my god.." seriously! i mean i'm still giving you business and my house is in allston just two T stops down from alfredo's, and i always give delivery guys like 5 bucks. probably not this guy though if it's the same guy i talked to on the phone. i just thought that was so rude!

the pizza was really tasty, however, and there were many items on the menu that sounded appetizing. i think it was the same old guy that delivered the pizza that answered the phone, which made me feel really uncomfortable...

We LOVE Alfredo's! Why go to the North End for a hearty, home cooked Italian meal when you can get it in Allston, for a much better price! Alfredo is a great guy, a genuine Italian chef. The food is always fresh, and oh so good! Eat in, or have it delivered. It will be at your door super fast, still piping hot and delicious.
Try the procsuitto de parma on salad with homemade fresh mozzerella for a starter. The pasta dishes are great, we love the Bolognese, the lobster ravioli, or if you like gnochi you can't go wrong with the gnocchi sorrento. If you are in the mood for a meat dish both the chicken piccata and the chicken saltemboca are wonderful. Well, I wish I could pick just one favorite, but I can't! It's all so good ;o)
Kudo's Alfredos, and thanks for bringing a little piece of Italy to Allston!!!

I read the reviews and went to try it myself. No delivery until 5, so we picked up a large margahita pizza and a chicken parm sub. Great food, friendly service, and one block away! Boy, will I need to limit my new obsession!

I lived in this nabe for three years before discovering this joint -- just literally a hole in the wall, but great food, great people. Won't go anywhere else for pizza, calzones now. Delivery in a flash -- they say 25 min and mean it (typical around here is 35-40). So far I've had pizza, calzones, Casear salad -- all great. Can't wait to try it all. Give these folks your business!

Best pizza for miles. For real, these guys are the real deal. From the RAI satellite feed to the forna legna (wood oven) it doesn't get much better than this. Forza Italia!!
