John consistently delivers excellent drinks with great attention to detail, creating a friendly and lively atmosphere late into the night. The food options, including unique items like a tavern burger on an English muffin accompanied by crispy tater tots, are satisfying and well-prepared even during late hours. The staff, from attentive bartenders to accommodating servers, contribute significantly to an enjoyable dining and drinking experience.

John always nails it behind the bar, whether it's making my egg white drink extra fluffy or just keeping the good vibes flowing. I had a great time grabbing some food from Dark Horse Tavern while enjoying drinks, and the fried pickles and tavern burger were delicious. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making our late-night outing even better-definitely planning to come back for more!

I do not recommend that anyone go to this establishment because this place has a serious customer relations problem.

On Wednesday, March 17, 2021 I went to the Dark Horse with my housemate, where an incident occurred with one of the bouncers on duty. This bouncer was very aggressive, condescending, and rude. I was humiliated and embarrassed in front of forty other customers in this room. Because I found the incident to be incredibly unprofessional, I wrote the following email to the establishment as soon as I got home that night.

I did not hear a response. On Friday March 19, 2021, I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager on duty. I told him there was an incident with the bouncer and asked whether they read the email I sent. The manager denied ever reading the email and said all email correspondences would go to his co-manager. I left my name and my telephone number. They said that someone would get back to me.

No one ever called me or followed up.

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, I sent a final courtesy email to the establishment. I wanted to discuss this matter in private, I asked for an investigation into the bouncer's conduct and wanted an update from the restaurant by end of the week.

I never heard from the restaurant. No one ever responded to either of my emails or my March 19, 2021 phone call.

Through its silence and its inaction, what this tells me is that the restaurant believes it is acceptable for their staff to emotionally abuse its customers. The restaurant believes it is acceptable for its bouncers to abuse their authority towards its customers. The restaurant believes it is acceptable for its bouncers to bully others.

This is not acceptable conduct whatsoever for any business.

This place used to be my favorite spot in Farmingdale. I never cry, but on March 25, 2021, over one week after I attended the restaurant, I broke down in tears as I recalled how I was humiliated and embarrassed by this bouncer and how my complaints were completely ignored by management.

I went to the Dark Horse many times in the past, but because management completely ignored a legitimate complaint, because management did not feel it necessary to respond to me at all and because of the way I was treated while at the establishment, I will never return. They don't care whatsoever about their customers.

There are plenty of other places in Farmingdale and on Long Island. I do not recommend this place. Please avoid it so you don't have the same awful, nightmarish experience I did.
