Been here a handful of times, and the food always hits the spot-especially the burgers with caramelized onions cooked just right on that flat top. The vibe feels like stepping back into an old-school diner, cozy and busy, with quick service that keeps things moving even when it's packed. Tried the chili dog recently and it was fantastic, but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu, especially if you save room for one of their amazing pies or shakes.

Town Topic Sandwich shops remind of the "greasy spoons of the 1950s. My dad and I would go to this type of restaurant when I was a little boy in the early and mid 1950s, when he had to work on Saturdays and I would go with him.

The breakfasts are fried or scrambled eggs with has browns and your choice of sausage, bacon or ham. The pancakes are huge. Lunch is cheeseburgers, pork tenderloin and fries or rings.

Basically it's food that makes a cardiologist cry, but I make it a point to have breakfast and lunch about once a month, to keep things in perspective. The restaurant on Broadway is the oldest, I think, and the one on Baltimore is my favorite.

If you're in your 50s or older and from a strong middle class background, these restaurants will bring back memories.
