My Husband and I were visiting Ft. Payne for the weekend and eating at Fontana's was on our agenda for Saturday evening. We found the restaurant which is located on the corner in an old group of buildings to be very charming. The restaurant is decorated in a fun whimsical manner. We ate at a small round table on the left that was divided with floor partitions that made it seem as if We were eating in little bistro. The walls were painted with trees and fairy lights hung down. There were tables and booths also available. The wait staff was extremely pleasant. We were warmly greeted and invited to sit where ever we liked. We ordered the Zucchini fritters for an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. Our entree selections were both the Lasagna, although it was a bit too cheesy, the flavor was delicious. The portion was large enough for two to share or for a half to take home. The small side salad was good. Although we were both quite full, we decided to try their Fried Oreo dessert, as we wanted something homemade. They offered to make us a half portion which consisted of two fried Oreos along with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The dessert was interesting and tasty.
Fontana's is a locally owned restaurant and we highly recommend you give them a try when you are in town. They offer a wonderful change from the chain restaurants and local is always better. The employees all appeared to work hard and actually cared to provide a nice meal for their patrons. Kuddos to them for giving us a nice place to eat during these trying times!
