In my hometown, there was a restaurant serving Chinese food and my very favorite dish they served was chicken and mushrooms with brown sauce gravy. It had delicious white meat chicken, beautiful sliced mushrooms, snow peas, water chestnuts and slivered carrots and little corn cobs. You could order white or brown rice on the side on which to put the chicken dish. I would also order a large won ton soup. It made two full meals for me over the weekend. I moved from that are many years ago, and in my subsequent travels have tried to find another restaurant serving Chinese food that had this dish on the menu. I have now lived in the Elmira/Horseheads area of NY for almost 4 years. And by pure chance in a conversation taking place in a meeting I was attending, it was mentioned that the Hamlet had the best Chinese food! This was news to me. I had seen the Hamlet, but presumed it served just American food. As it turns out, they serve both! I could not wait to view their menu, an there it was - chicken and mushrooms! I could not wait to try it, and am eating my first order of it as I write this. Their recipe is a bit different as the dish is exactly what it is named - chicken and mushrooms with a dark gravy. (No snow peas or water chestnuts) however, it is delicious! I am thrilled to have found this dish again after many years have passed and I believe I will now be a repeat customer and try other items on their extensive menu!

There was a penny in my three year olds fried rice. I called to complain and they offered to refund me one side of fried rice back; after telling them it was unacceptable my son could have choked they hung up on us. We order from them all the time and always spend $50-$60. NEVER AGAIN.

Love this place, lots of room , staff very friendly have attended several group luncheons and meal was awesome and very affordable! Love going for breakfast .
