The proprietor who goes by the name of Doreen, made sure that my guests and I had a terrible experience. They advertised an Irish Band for St Patrick's day. And for this reason, primarily, we selected Inn of the Hawke for our St. Patrick's day fête. During our meal, which was fair in quality, the band, Rickety Bridge, which we were throughly enjoying, started packing up to depart.

This was disappointing on several levels, not the least of which was the festive mood being sucked right out of the atmosphere. We were appalled to learn that the manager, Doreen, called off the band because it didn't sound "Irish" enough!! We couldn't disagree more. We were all but singing and dancing along and reveling in what started to feel like a real rollicking St Pats event. The owner was visibly agitated during the performance, while I my friends and other patrons, mouthed the words to familiar Irish songs.

Doreen bore a terrible demeanor and seemed to be sniping at the band as she came barreling through the dining room occasionally, completely oblivious to how engaged, pleased and connected to the festivities everyone seemed to be. We then witnessed and overheard her being rude to some other customers - extremely rude - in front of our table and several of the other patrons. She was neither subtle nor discreet. Her unprofessionalism was striking to say the least.

So, with the music completely stopped, we continued to finish our entrees while watching the band pack up their equipment. I thanked the band for doing a great job and imparted some sympathy for them and for us. We can't express how anti-climatic this came to be as we were left staring at an empty openness in the middle of the dining room.

The emptiness marred the remainder of our dining experience and was a monument of an evening spent in the wrong place. Yes, the food was fine, but we came to celebrate and felt that we were deprived of a more joyous experience, a betrayal of "truth in advertising". Tread here only if you must. My impression is that, while the food is passable, the owner is morally bankrupt, unprofessional, a bullying brute and undeserving of anyone's patronage.
