My lamb gyros from Athens Grill were delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive.

Service was awful. I went with my girlfriend on a sunday night. We were the only table there when we arrived. As soon as we sat down a small salad was put down on our table without a word spoken to us by the owner/waitress. Our drink orders were never taken. We were using a restaurant.com gift certificate, so we gave it to her as soon as she came to take our order. We ordered an appetizer, panini, and a gyro, which should have totaled about $25. when we asked what our total was I was stunned to see that it was $33. She charged us for the salad that she silently placed on the table and we were led to assume was put on all tables. So I asked why she charged us for the salad. She told me that it comes with all the entree's and that since we ordered sandwiches and not entree's we had to pay for it. We were never told that we could not order sandwiches with the gift certificate, which we presented before ever ordering anything. So i asked her what on the menu is an entree and found out that it's only about 1/5 of the total menu, and outrageously priced compared to the rest. And then she said to me " If you want to get technical i can take off the gift certificate and you can pay full price." Needless to say i will never be going back again because no owner should ever be as rude to anyone as they were to me.

The Athens Grill is one of my favorite places to eat in the Toms River area. The first thing you notice is the friendly service. The place has an atmosphere of welcome, and of people who are passionate about good food. The menu provides a lot of diversity, and we haven't hit anything bad yet, though I will admit that their hummus is a little sweet for my taste. However, their Gyros are fabulous, and the cheesy filo triangles (tiropites (sp?)) were to die for. The tsatsiki was creamy and delicious and everything oozed fresh ingredients and careful preparation. We ended the meal with baklava (nutty and flaky but needed a bit more honey) and a little chocolate mousse mouse that was beyond fabulous. Check it out. This place is a real gem!
