This is the reason I visit NYC more often than any other city. The starter, a fresh artichoke salad (more than a touch of garlic, thank God!) introduced a lovely sauteed veal/vegetable/pleasant reduction dish. The matre d'hote was a pleasant visitor to our table; the service was timely and not overly fussy. All four in our party left in a good mood, happy to have had a nice couple of hours together over very good food and an impressive Tuscan red that did not put me in the poor house. We will return, next visit!

It was a rough Friday afternoon and I was walking by Trattoria Toscana and I saw this gourgeous mahogany bar inviting me ie. Thank God for the bartender's incredible Martini ! What a great place, every one there was so friendly and genuine. He assured me I would have a great meal and indeed I did, The host was extremely attentive also and a awful Friday turned into a wonderful evening, I had a terrific steak and some tasty espresso followed by Grappa. This is what an Italian restaurant should be, great food, great drinks and great service. Guess wher I'm going Friday evening after work ?

09/23/2007 - Great Food, and new Hot Spot
Recently renamed to Trattoria Toscana from Oreste by the new owners. This hot new spot is quickly rising to be a great vibe and the buzz is around the neighborhood. The place has a great bar to mingle and have drinks. The decor is lively with a rustic and warm feeling. The food is absolutely to die for. If you want to feel like you are in Florence, Italy without getting on a plane, then visit this Italian bistro in the heart of Greenwich Village. If you want superstar quality similar to Da Silvano but without going too deep into your pocket, then Trattoria Toscana is by far the best Italian restaurant on Carmine Street.
