I have eaten at Yo Sushi for many years and I loved it.
But WHAT has happened IN 2008????
The last 2 visits were very disappointing.
First visit, the lighting and music were maladjusted and they seated another couple right next to my table in a rather sparse dining room. The staff allowed people picking up food diners to come in to the restaurant talking loudly on a cell phone without asking them to speak softer in lieu of the few diners eating in the restaurant. Service was so so and I had to look for the servers despite very few diners in the restaurant.
2nd visit - TOO MUCH READING on my tempura and greasy. And then these TINY shrimp inside? Let me think here, I buy shrimp in China Town for 6.50 a POUND and get about 12 (26-30)size shrimp. These shrimp must have been the (40 - 50 pieces) per pound shrimp.
I must say that I have been to Japan and had tempura from the guy who pushes a cart in a restaurant and fries it right there for you. This tempera is very light and delicious.
Miso soup was kind of blah. Tiny squares of soy made me feel like this was a "Burger King" of Japanese food.
Living in New York for 20 years plus, I had found 2 local average priced Japanese restaurants that had great atmosphere and authentic Japanese food. One on 18th btw Irving and Park (closed 6 years ago) and Yo Sushi until it was sold to new owners. I am sad to not be able to enjoy my Japanese food in their beautifully decorated restaurant anymore.
