Rolled into Gallup, NM on an old version of Route 66 -- had a Navajo Taco at Earl’s Restaurant, a Mother Road staple since 1947. Busy, busy place! Several Navajo tribespeople set up outside the restaurant hawking their hand-made crafts, plus they were allowed to walk through the restaurant and offer their goods to people as they ate. They were discreet, not pushy and left your table if you declined their wares. The restaurant keeps the standards of both products offered and the way the hawkers comport themselves at a very high level. By the way -- a Navajo Taco is probably more like an enchilada, covered with beans and salsa. It was built on fry bread, instead of a tortilla -- delicious!
