I've only had the pleasure of eating at Damon's on a few occasions. The atmosphere is very upscale and tranquil. The food was incredible and I can see why Damon has won the Best Chef award. His menu is unique and wonderfully diverse.

The worst restaurant experience we have ever had,

As we traveled to Taos we noticed a big sign for Chef Damon’s restaurant, claiming a James Beard Chef Award winner and the 2008 People Choice. Great, we thought, this looks like a great find. It was an early evening and we could get in before the crowds for what was sure to be a great gastronomic delight, or so we thought.

We walked in carrying our two babies. We noticed the chef as we entered and the hostess who showed us to a table in an almost empty restaurant. Chef didn’t appear very friendly nor did he greet us but oh well, he is a Chef and he just got the James Beard award…

Since we appreciate food and love to travel we have traveled to some of the finest foodie destinations on the globe. Since being blessed with our two daughters 2 years ago and 10 month ago, we have been welcomed warmly with our co-travelers time and time again by restaurateurs and other guests making friendly inquiries about the babies.

In stark contrast at Chef Damon’s, while inquiring the hostess about recommendations she delicately pointed out to us in hushed tone that “Chef is concerned that the babies might disturb the other guests”. Since our daughters were well behaved and well attended to by us, and we were part of a very spare early dining crowd, I asked if our daughters were anything other than well behaved. Yes, she said, they were behaving well now, but… We didn’t need the hostess to finish her sentence. Feeling unwelcome, we left.

So while we were not privileged to experience the actual food at Chef Damon’s we recommend that if you have, have had, or plan to have children in your life, you might want to reconsider Chef Damon’s as a choice.

You gotta wonder what would Chef’s mother’s choice be?
