Went for dinner tonight for our rare night out on a date (2 small kids), but had a horrible experience. The night started off good but we waited a while for the food and although it tasted okay, the service/management was pretty darn bad. I used to be an assistant manager at a restaurant and I would never treat a customer with such disrespect. I have food allergies and apparently I ordered the wrong sushi roll. Its difficult to decipher all the fake ingredients just from a menu description but I thought I did a good job. I was wrong! I was mid conversation with my wife and ate 2 bites before I completely realized my mistake. I ordered a roll filled with wheat and imitation crab. Both make me quite sick. I called the waiter over and discussed my food allergies and he was very understanding and apologetic even though it was not really his fault. I should have deciphered the menu more. Anyhow, he kindly offered me a replacement roll so I got a cheaper more simple roll. I did not make a scene nor did I require a comp but at no point did the server indicate that I would be paying for the roll I was sending back. I never would have added another roll had i known. Then the bill came and i inquired about the roll they took back. They stated that since I ordered it and "didn't want it", i would have to pay for it even though the I couldn't eat it and even though the ingredients listed on the menu weren't very descriptive. I discussed with the manager about my food allergies and he declined from removing it from the tab. He was actually quite a jerk while talking to me. Theres no need to speak to customers that way. I had to deal with it and rush out so I could pick up my toddler from the date night church daycare so i just paid the tab and left. Rest assured, I will not be returning. This was our first time trying this restaurant but we won't be back. Such a shame! Its so hard to find a wholesome gluten free / allergy friendly sushi restaurant these days. While the sushi is okay, i can find better service elsewhere with similar food.
