Freddie's had the best fish fry I've ever tasted, with bluegill fillets and shrimp lightly breaded to perfection. The creamy coleslaw and tasty potato pancakes paired perfectly with the delicious fish, creating an unforgettable dining experience that I will truly miss.

Interesting tale ! - - - October 2016 was our recent visit. (See my previous review ). This time I decided to try a sampler of Walleye, lake perch and of course, Blue Gills. They were happy to do this. Everything was as incredible as the Blue Gills we had ordered before. One catch however; - - - I completely forgot that Freddie's is a "cash only" place. When it came to pay the bill, we discovered that neither of us had enough money to cover the bill.("OOPS ! wash dishes?). Well, to illustrate how friendly and trusting these people are, they allowed us to pay the bill by mail when we returned to Wheeling. Which I did immediately. Didn't even ask for security. But of course they did remember us from previous visits. How many restaurants would do that for anyone? Now, I don't recommend going there and ask for a similar accomodation. Just remember "CASH ONLY" !! Yes, it is an old shacky bar with only 8 tables, and yes, they only serve food (fish) on Fridays. Again , don't go there with any pretenses ! Just great fresh fish and a very friendly bunch of people. I'm sure glad we found this place.
P.S. The only other place we have found a very good and inexpensive BLUE GILL fish fry is at COLEMAN'S in CRYSTAL LAKE, IL. "ANOTHER SHACK WITH 8 TABLES. !! "ENJOY"
