I absolutely love the Canal St restaurant in New Orleans. My friends and family have gone there for 10 years but I am sorry to say that this new Spanish Fort place was a huge disappointment. For positives: the location, building etc was just fine. The wait staff was superb (5 stars) and the French fries were delicious but after that the rest was downhill. We arrived with great anticipation at 11:00 when they opened (2 ladies) and I ordered the Trout Meuniere/Almondine. I received a piece of fish and fries, no salad, no cole slaw etc.My friend ordered fried oysters. It came out quickly and looked pretty good however: the fish (while white) was extremely fishy and a bit unpleasant and the sauce was not meuniere sauce. Instead it appeared to be a one-minute packaged gravy such as you would put on mashed potatoes with no taste. Meuniere sauce is made of butter, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper seasoning and more but this was not even close. The Canal St restaurant in NOLA has always done it right. Wonderful tasting white fish with the perfect sauce on it. If I had to guess, I would guess that someone was on the shift that did not know how to make the sauce and the fish seemed maybe a little old. I did not finish it. I would imagine that a lot of NOLA customers who live in our area will give it a try so I hope things will tighten up so they will not be disappointed.

The appetizers are awesome but the entrees not so much. The sauce is good not great in the Italian dishes but the meatballs are horrible. It’s way over priced as well. They advertise as one $ sign buts it’s more like 2 1/2. The service is excellent.
