Recently, November 2013, menus adverting delivery from Coco's were distributed throughout the apartment building where I live. The menu sounded delicious so I ordered the barbecue half chicken with sides of fries, and coleslaw and the house barbecue sauce.. My son ordered the Smokey Onion Cheeseburger which included fries.
The food was delivered in just under an hour, Almost $30.00 plus a $3.00 gratuity. A reasonable price if the food is good. First let me say that my son enjoyed his burger and fries, that is why there is a three star rating. My entree was just plain awful. The chicken which was described as slowly smoked for 4 to 5 hours with a special hickory rub making it moist and delicious was absolutely charred so that any hickory rub was deeply burned, the wing was completely burned, a piece of char, and the leg and thigh were similarly scorched. The breast was also singed so that a chunk had to peeled off because it was inedible. The rest was smokey and incredibly dry. The fries served commonly these days(including Coco') are coated with a seasoning and crisper enhancer which is not horrible, but I prefer an unadulterated fried potato. The overall flaw with the meal was a lack of balance in any of the flavors, the coleslaw, not sweet, which I actually prefer was so heavy with sliced onions that it was more of an onion slaw. The barbecue sauce on the side was too vinegary because the mesquite or hickory seasoning overpowered the the other ingredients. It was a raw dressing rather than a simmered and thickened blended sauce.
I would not order any of the items from the Smoked House menu because the barbecue chicken was just not any good. I might try the pizza at some point. The delivery from Coco's was a big disappointment. :-P
