Have been going to The Holloywood for 30 yrs plus . Have lived in and frequently visited many cities etc with wonderful restaurants. The Hollywood is always a go to place when we are living at Chateaugay Lake. It has a new menu and we give Russ, the owner , kudos for trying something new. Have not been disappointed , the new chef is very good!! Great atmosphere except for one thing, it needs AC wall units on the beautiful front porch facing the lake!

We decided to try this place despite the bad reviews, since the area offers very limited options if you don't want burgers or pizza. We thought it was fine. The atmosphere was warm and pleasant, the view lovely, the service friendly and competent. The food is homey, not fancy. The soup, lamb chops and desserts were very good, the shrimp scampi was good but lacked sauce for the pasta, the chicken and broccoli alfredo was ok, the salad bar was disappointing. The prices were a little high for the quality, but given how little competition they face, that's not surprising. I'd go again.

Curious to see other bad reviews here. Yes, I had spent many hours at the "Big H" years back. When I last visited the area for one of those camp reunions, "R" had thought that everyone associated from camp had left town. I was surprised, hurt and disappointed when he made a disparaging remark about all the rich kids and counselors from down state. Sure, he may have been joking with some local neighbors but I shouldn't have been able to hear it. To be fair, this was a few years ago. I haven't been back since.

From what I've read I don't know if I can eat much there now. The burgers used to be great. I don't eat them anymore. The salads were good, too. I hope they still are.

I wish the family well and hope they bring back the fun, neighborly spirit that they used to have. I don't think this is the "Cheers of Merrill" anymore.

I'd love for someone to write otherwise.

Do not go here. Nothing is fresh at all. Terrible food. Restaurant was straightening out with good food and help towards end of summer into fall and then once again I go in and it's back to awful. They never have the same staff and this time was hands down my worst restaurant experience ever. Prices are outrageous for frozen and box prepared meals! The view of the lake is the only nice thing this place offers, find a different view though.

First off let me tell you about this place it is a joke. I heard they hired a new Chef, and I have tried the food. It was great what a change. But the owners seem to be stuck in a time machine that won't go into the future. From what I am told. The Chef is not allowed to be creative and create different menu items. The old menu has to stay the same. He gets told that the kitchen with the changes it is moving to fast. Hope they can see the future soon.

Worst meal ever. Service sucks and the food tasted like overcooked Sams Club fare.
Steak was so tough I could not cut it, yet alone chew it and it was over 50% grizzle.
Drinks were ok at best.

This was written on July 9, 2013. I urge anyone considering to eat at Hollywood Inn (on Chateaugay Lake) to read this review first. I grew up in the area. I now live in a city where I am exposed to really excellent dining. Now anyone from around Chateaugay is not used to fine dining. But I have to tell you. With five of us in our party, we had the ABSOLUTE WORST dinner of our lives. Everything and I mean everything was over-cooked. The chicken was hard. The porkchops were like cardboard. My parents food was so poorly prepared that I was literally sitting there stunned and sad that we were there for a special dinner and they had the audacity to serve us such crap. If I could give this place less than one star I would. And this is not the first time I've eaten there. But this time was much, much worse. And what's the worst part? The owner has the balls to charge $21.95 for scallops!! Six, charred scallops were $21.95. In New York City I can get scallops prepared by the best chefs in the country for $28. I mean it was SO BAD that we all finally laughed about it the next day. This guy must be running a scam on unsuspecting parents who drop their children off at Camp Chateaugay. I'm sorry but I had to write this review. Now if you want another good tip. You know the Owlyout bar down the road. Stop in there. What a nice man who grew up in Chateaugay and is doing some great things with this restaurant. Hollywood you deserve this review. You have some nerve charging those prices for CARDBOARD!

I went there last year while visiting. We sat on the Lake side and watched the boats on the lake through a wall of windows. The food was excellent, service fun and good. The place was full even though this place is out of the way sort of. There is a pub area, and a rustic room with the most beautiful fireplace that would be great for weddings or parties! Going up again soon and want to sit at that window again! ; )

Sit on an enclosed porch with a view of the Chateaugay Lake Narrows and enjoy a varied menu including a Great Burger with real French Fries or a Steak or Prime Rib or several Seafood choices along with a complete bar service. Salad bar too, all at a reasonable price.
