OMG>>> the food was delicious..BUT.. I was there in the rest. with a party of 12.. The owner apparently got pissed off at an employee over a 'to~go' order that was not complete... We'd never heard such an ordeal ... he flew off and kept on and on and on... As customers, we were NOT enjoying our food at all... The older Italian owner needs anger management classes... If it is the Italian way to express themselves and 'we' the public are to understand, he needs to open only to Italians... We simply do not understand that type crap. We quickly got up, complained, he slammed a few things around and NEVER did he offer any type apology.. He needs to get out of the business or learn to keep his mouth shut.. Any issue's that arrise , can be handled in a business manner and taken to the office. We were paying customers and did we enjoy his food? I think not... and all 12 of us have not , not will not go back... Eat this great food at your own risk... Cafe Vesuvio is not the only Italian Rest. in Sanford... thanks for listening.

The food is almost always excellent here. It is clearly the best Italian food you can find within a 50 mile radius of Sanford. What keeps this from getting a fifth star is mostly the service. It is erratic at best, drinks getting refilled are a struggle, the amount of ice in the drinks is absurdly high. The bread portions I have noticed have shrunk a lot of late. Also, the booth seats are lumpy feeling, likely need replacing, and when someone is sitting behind you, you feel their every movement, which is very uncomfortable. But the food is dynamite!

My brother and I went there tonight for dinner. I ordered a steak & cheese sub, and he ordered Chicken Fettucine Alfredo. My cheese steak was supposed to be plain, but instead it was covered with onions, peppers & mushrooms. I sent it back. The Fettucine was solid white - no pepper, no seasonings - it was bland. My brother tasted the chicken, and immediately spit it out. I tried a piece. It was chewy and tasteless. It was either undercooked or had spoiled one. At this point, I was just ready to leave, so I called the waitress over, and asked for the check for the appetizer & drinks so we could pay and leave.

I then overheard the cook, yelling at the waitress that there was nothing wrong with it. I heard her tell him "I'm not calling you a liar - I'm just telling you what they said." I continued to ignore it until I could see that the waitress was getting upset by his continued berating.

I walked over and very loudly told the cook "Sir, your chicken is nasty - that is why it was sent back." and handed the waitress payment. As I was walking out, the cook then began to yell at me. I turned around again, repeated what I had said earlier and left.

There was at least one manager, if not 2 at the front of the restaurant who made no attempts to intervene in the situation. After I left, I called to speak with the manager. I told him why I had left and why I had said what I did. His response? "Okay." Seriously - that's the ONLY thing he had to say.

I will not return.

The food is so delicious, rivaling Olive Garden with the Chicken Alfredo. The Cesar salad is also great. And if you get the sweet tea, prepare to float out of there because it is soooooo good!
