What a great find is Nicholson House. My wife Sheri and I enjoyed our meal, the hospitality and the gift shop, where I discovered Carolina Toffee.

Story-time: I too, was going to ring the bell many times but my doctor wife made me wait to ring her school bell at home … we found a genuine ringy-dingy school bell at an antique store in Vermont.

Not half as much fun as ringing the Nicholson bell, but then again, we want to return (grins) for really great food

Love the atmosphere and food, all home made.

Went to Layden's to get meat packages(great meat and prices), and they suggested Nicholson House for eating. Had great lunch at very reasonable prices. Even the 3 and 5 enjoyed chicken tenders and pink lemonade. Also the house is beautiful, with different rooms to dine in. We will be back. Plus a great gift shop with some wonderful clothing.

A country resturant in a fine Victorian home. Good food for a reasonable prices. We live across the border in Virginia but still try to eat there a couple times a year. My favorite is breakfast with local country ham. Yum!

LOL I've lived in this area for many years, and have ate here many times, Ive experienced nothing
but great food in a nice, country setting. My kids have ran upstairs many times to play with the "tea party" stuff, and I'm sure deserved to be yelled at a time or two! lol but I cant recall them ever. But I could sure use someone around my house to ring a few bells every now and then! Maybe the owner could do "Mr nanny house calls" lol Thats a rediculous review. Eat with confidence.

THIS RESTAURANT is awesome. 2 thumbs up for this establishment. I would invite all my army buddies to eat here.

This is not cutting-edge, avant garde food. You won't find similar recipes in Bon Appetit. Martha Stewart doesn't live here either. BUT, if you want the comfort of some old-fashioned, homestyle country food, in the most adorable setting (if you can't handle adorable, the dog room is full of hunting labrador motif) this is your place. I live just down the road and I eat there often with my children (who have never had to be reprimanded by the owners! Ha ha! I can only imagine Dr. Fereira is one of those types who believes his child can do no wrong.)

We love this place. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes are great. Their breakfast is so nice as well.

The GIFT SHOP is one of my favorite places in three counties to get gifts in Northeast NC.

A charming and delightful restaurant/tea room.

Deborah provides the perfect ambiance, table setting and food for a lovely tea. A delightful little escape from a busy schedule.

Even though my friends and I live just 15 miles away we always find our way at least 3 times a year to enjoy a scrumptious lunch at the Nicholson House. We are never disappointed and do bring new people and family along with us. The food is absolutely delicious and at great prices.

WOW! What a treasure to find! Atmosphere is absolutely wonderful and very pleasant! Unlike the above review, my husband and I had the pleasure to meet the owners and they were nothing but kind and a delight to talk with! The food was great (we love southern comfort food) and can't wait to go back! The gift shop was absolutely the most adorable shop I've ever seen! love, love, love!!!

Owner, Mr Byrum, was very rude and unprofessional. My son, three, was ringing the bell they have out front. He came running out grabbed the bell and yelled " this ain't no damn toy". When my wife confronted Mr. Byrum he yelled at her saying "this my calm restaurant and I will do what ever I calm well please. The owner is out of control and needs to stay way from the public.

I will never eat at this second rate restaurant again.

Owner, Mr Byrum, was very rude and unprofessional. My son, three, was ringing the bell they have out front foyer. He came running out of the kitchen and grabbed the bell yelling “this ain't no damn toy". When my wife confronted Mr. Byrum he yelled at her saying "this my damn restaurant and I will do whatever I damn well please”. I attempted to speak with Mr. Byrum about this situation and he threatened me telling me he would take care of me too. The owner is out of control and needs to stay away from the public. The wife, co-owner, and the daughter, waitress attempted to smooth things over. They tried to blame us for setting off their husband/father. How pathetic. I will never eat at this second rate restaurant again. If they do not like children and do not want anything touched, maybe they should change the name from Nicholson House to Nicholson Museum.

My husband and I drove down from Norfolk on 4/2/2010 to meet friends. We had a delightful dinner with great entertainment by Bill Darrow
and a tour of the unique house and gift shop.
I was worth the trip, and we look forward to returning.
