Kupel's serves up some of the best bagels around, with a nice balance of soft, doughy insides and slightly crisp outsides that remind me of the NYC spots I grew up loving. Their cream cheese selection is solid, especially the scallion and chive varieties, though I wish the lox spread had more texture like chunks instead of a paste. If you swing by on a weekend morning, try the simple yet fresh breakfast sandwiches like the Back Bay-it's a crowd-pleaser that hits all the right notes without breaking the bank.
