Awful management.

My family and I live in Neptune and are regular customers of both Kellys and Clancys. My husband and I took our two children to Clancys after marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Belmar. We decided to go to Clancys knowing that Kellys usually has a line out the door after the parade. While we understood that there would still be a crowd at Clancys and we would have to wait a bit, we did not expect to be treated horribly by some of the staff. Our waitress was very nice and apologized several times for the delay. We ordered the mushroom caps as an appetizer and they never came out. Our entrees, two kids meals, a fish and chips, and mini reuben were delivered an hour after we ordered. All the food was cold and the mini reuben was another sandwich that looked like it, but not. It had potatoes and cabbage in it. We explained the problem to the food runner and he microwaved my daughters food and brought me back the same sandwich again telling me it was the reuben. I told him it was not, and he proceeded to argue with me. I pulled apart the sandwich, showed him the potatoes and cabbage, and told him it was a different sandwich on the special menu. He replied that he wasn't going to pull it apart himself to check and he marched off with the sandwich rolling his eyes and mumbling. We still had two cold entrees that had not been addressed in any way. At this point we informed our waitress that we would be leaving and paying for the two draft beers we had. We left 10 dollars on the table and proceeded to leave. The food runner (not the waitress) chased us down and yelled to me that we need to pay for our drinks. I informed him that my husband left money on the table. My husband and children were ahead of me and did not see that I had been stopped and continued on. The food runner continued arguing with me so I asked to speak with the manager. He took me to the manager. I explained to the manager that the reason we were leaving was because of the way we were treated by the food runner and that our waitress was very nice. I continued to explain that the way the food runner argued with us was very unprofessional and offensive. We understood that it was busy due to the parade, and that the kitchen was busy, but nothing was being resolved satisfactorly. The food runners argumentative behavior was completely unacceptable. The manager informed us that he did not think that there was a problem with the food runners behavior. Not only was that statement unprofessional, but it was offensive. Both the manager and food runner were rude, unprofessional and argumentative with us. My husband caught up with me and paid the additional 6 dollars they wanted for the two draft beers we ordered. Quite frankly the beer should have been comped given the problems we experienced.

My husband and I are locals and undertand what it is like to work on parade day. We both worked at the Tides on parade day. We met there and worked there for 5 years. He was a cook in the kitchen and I was a bartender and waitress when the Tides was the parade headquartes in the 90s, so we get it! I have never seen a staff member in a restaurant be so argumentative with a customer, and then for the manager to back him up, was appalling. I was highly offended and did not appreciate being treated so poorly. The staff needs much better training in customer relations. My husband has lived in Neptune his whole life and has grown up going to Kellys. We often go to Clancys since it has opened, but not sure we will go back now. We were extremely disappointed this evening.

I wrote them an email to express my concerns to the owner/mamagement and never received a reply. They have horrible customer service! They had a horrible entitlement attitude, as if we owed them something just for being there.
