02/20/2011 - Beloved authentic casual Spanish tapas bar & bakery
The Napoleon Bakery in West Palm is a find. It's one of the two truly outstanding eateries we've found in this area--two unique places whose food is delicious, very skillfully prepared, and authentic to its region, in this case, Spain and the European Basque zone. (The other is Bahamian--Sheila's in Lake Worth) And because this place isn't a fake concept or brand, but a place that loves food, it also serves things like delicious spinach and cheese pies and baklava, the legacy of a staffer from Armenia.
The bakery's pastries defy description--we'd never had many of these before, and they're just amazingly delicious, with real whipped cream and real fruit.
At lunchtime all week they serve tapas as at Spanish bars, at incredibly low prices even for ordinary food, but this food is highest quality works of art--little sandwiches of various salamis, home-made chorizos, and Spanish cheeses, like 3 kinds of manchego; spinach and cheese pies; chorizos rolled in pastry; canapes and other hors d'oeuvres; Spanish tortillas (quiche-like treats); perfect sandwiches on a baguette; complex home-made soups--different things every day. Plus imported sodas and mineral waters.
The chef is an amazing lady from Spain; the pastry chef and servers are the sons of the family. It's a warm, friendly, earthy-elegant place for lunch, with food that will blow you over.
