I dove headfirst into a plate of chicken fried steak smothered in creamy gravy with mashed potatoes so good they should come with a warning label, and I demolished every bite before I even thought about snapping a pic. The vibe felt like a down-home diner where everyone from steel mill workers to state senators fuel up together, served by friendly staff who keep the coffee flowing and the plates coming fast-just be sure to get there early if you want the daily specials, because this place fills up faster than you can say "fried okra."

I used to go to Nelson's when I worked downtown and it is still just as wonderful as it was.

I've been eating at Nelsons since I was a young boy visiting for lunch alongside my father. Neither one of us had any complaints. Nelsons has always had fantastic food consistently day in and day out. It has always been as good and better than most if not all cafeteria food. It has an incredible variety of good tasty healthy food options. Seasoned to perfection and cooked extraordinarily well. I highly recommend the food. A live country band plays music in the restaurant on Fridays.
