Every visit to Hawaii includes a meal here because their smoked meats-especially the pork, chicken, and fish-consistently deliver tender, flavorful experiences that stand out on the menu. While some dishes like the chili and hamburger steak didn't appeal to me as much, the smoked items and friendly service make it worth returning, and the outdoor seating enhances the overall dining atmosphere.

I have eaten many outstanding meals from Guava Smoked. I have my definite favorites and have always had favorable experiences with the variety of foods I have eaten. However, such was not the case yesterday. My coworker and I ordered takeout for lunch. We ordered the Smoked Kalbi Pupu Bowl and the Smoked Kalbi Plate. Once we sat down to eat and opened our containers, I could not believe what I was looking at! Big bones with a minimal of meat surrounding the bone and literally covered in oil. A pitiful sight compared to previous versions I have had at other times. We ate our food anyway. Who can blame us??? They were tasty bits of meat and we were hungry. Still, we had to blot the grease and were apalled at the thought that we ate what we believe was "the bottom of the barrel".

I'm embarrassed at the thought of paying $16 and $12 for what we had yesterday. I called Guava Smoked yesterday. Not so much to complain but to express my disappointment. It sounds like the same thing I'm sure yet, my anticipation and expectations were dashed. On the other hand it's not too much to expect that quality is consistent.
