Made reservations for my birthday dinner. Arrived just a few minutes early, but they told us no problem--table will be ready in 20 minutes. We waited in their outdoor garden area. Unfortunately, even though no smoking is NOT allowed in the garden area, several customers decided to light up anyway. We waited over an hour (well beyond our reservation). Many people were sitting, standing, and waiting anywhere they could. This restaurant had OBVIOUSLY overbooked MANY tables. We never did get our table--after about an hour and 20 minutes, we decided to try our luck somewhere else--anywhere else. Very uncomfortable waiting on plastic chairs and/or standing for that long AFTER our reservation! And then having to endure others' cigarettes, even though it was designated as non-smoking--signs were everywhere. Completely ruined my birthday!

I do not have a hearing problem but found the evening of a "rushed/turn the table meal" at Carmelo's to be a screaming nightmare. If you want a relaxed fine dining experience don't go here. My marinara sauce was bitter and pasta luke warm and sticky. The waiter was stressed juggling too many tables and passing us by when we wanted to make several requests. When he did stop for our wine bottle order he brought the wrong wine. Thank heavens we noticed before he hurried to open and pour. The people next to us who sat down 10-15 minutes after us got served way before us. Appetizer tray stayed on our table while they squeezed in our entree dishes and never mind stopping to pour us more wine............we just screamed, "pass the wine bottle please!" While some might say the atmosphere is jovial, festive and sociable……………I say deafening, rowdy and distasteful!

I'm from northern NJ, I know good italian food. Take my word, this is the Best you will find in our area!
