2 of my friends drove down to Pine Island from Jacksonville to spend a few days with us. They just love Matlacha (Mat-la-shay) and all the quaint shops, so we decided to spend half our day there. Around 1:00 we were ready for lunch. Although I'd never eaten at the Blue Dog Bar & Grill, I suggested it to the girls and told them it always seemed to be packed with people. We only waited 10 mins. to be seated and when our food arrived, we were not disappointed. For the life of me, I can't remember what they ordered because I was consumed with the Florida style 1/2 lb. Wagyu (pronounced wag-ee-you) beef hamburger on a toasted brioche bun branded with a "B" on top of the bun. The menu said the beef is antibiotic and hormone free. I ordered it with grilled mushroom and onions and swiss cheese. OMG! It was the best hamburger I've ever had in 70-plus yrs. I ordered 1 to go for my husband and he said the same thing. If you're ever in the neighborhood, give it a try. You can see their extensive menu on line. I never thought I'd be writing a review for a hamburger, but I figured the burgers I got were well worth a few minutes of my time. Kudos to the chef and the waitress was well informed about favorite menu items and it was she who recommended the hamburgers. I'll be back!!!
