So disappointed... thought we'd be safe at stopping by a diner for a decent meal, as opposed to a typical chain restaurant. We ordered from the "dinner specials" page and never anticipated any issues. I received a side salad and two vegetable sides included with my meal, and I also ordered a crock of french onion soup at a discounted price since I was purchasing a meal.
My eggplant parm was heavily breaded and deep fried... it seemed to have taken on the flavor of old/burnt oil and tasted pretty bad. I never got past a few bites. The steak fries that were ordered as a side also took on that awful taste.
I attempted to tell the waitress about the problem with the food and offered to pay for what I had eaten. She carried the plate off in a huff and called out the cook's name before even reaching the kitchen door. When she returned, she was extremely rude and told me that the oil had been changed the night before and that it was freshly breaded eggplant. In hindsight, I should have asked if her or the cook had taken a taste to see for themselves. She said the bill would be adjusted.
She fussed and complained to the other workers, greatly embarrassing me in front of other customers. When we were handed the bill, the onion soup, salad and both sides were charged to me at full price... bringing the bill to far more than I would have paid if I had said nothing and just left the bad food sit there.
I have never experienced anything like this before... I walked out of that diner feeling very sad that I was treated so poorly... very poor customer service. I will never step foot in there again, and I will certainly be sharing my experience. And perhaps the waitress should learn some manners and proper etiquette if she's planning on staying in the food service business.
