I loved going to the OP or the Other Place which I believe was a reference to being an alternative live rock venue to another rock bar called PJ’s. At least that’s what I always thought is why they called it that. I probably hit the OP 100 times and mostly to see the great Florida band know as The Stranger Band! Ronnie was such a killer guitarist and the singers voice was excellent. The whole band was as tight as any professional band I’d ever seen. It was like seeing a killer concert for a $3 cover and a drink I would nurse through the night, those were the days my friend I thought they’d never end. I absolutely miss the OP and as usual politicians suck!!!

The Other Place was not really a restaurant. They served food there in the daytime and some items at night, but the main function of this place was a night club. It was fairly large for a club with a high stage, small concert venue VERY popular in the 80's when Big Rock, Pop Rock, Metal, Heavy Rock, etc were so popular. I played there with 4 different concert-style rock bands and had a GREAT time every time.

The people enjoyed themselves, they rocked out, they partied, they danced, and everyone got along gracefully. I saw some pretty crazy and wild things go on there... including things in the alley behind the club. Pretty wild 80's establishment... when people just wanted to have a great time. Unlike today when so-called "rock bands" only seem to write/play depressing, dark things and then whine about how bad their lives are.

The club/restaurant is no longer there. Daytona Beach politicians tore the entire center down and put in a -- drum roll please -- a PARKING LOT! I miss those times, and the 80's in general. People are so uptight and again, whiny now compared to the fun, carefree days then. Very sad finding out they tore the place down.

Here's to you, Other Place... you made a lot of people happy and you, well, just ROCKED!
