Some evenings when I don't feel like cooking, Athens in Des Moines offers a convenient option with quick and friendly service. The cold cuts grinder was tasty, though the bread was a bit too crunchy and the meat-to-bread ratio could be improved; the cheese bread and dolmades were enjoyable as well. Despite the modest interior, the food is satisfying, portions are generous, and the staff is attentive, making it a reliable choice for casual Italian and Greek meals.

I went to Athens for a grinder and it was pretty good. The service was quick and friendly, but there were a few things that could have been better. The bread was too crunchy, and the meat portion was a bit small for the size of the sandwich. Overall, it was a decent spot for a quick meal in Des Moines.

Seems like new front staff. Server came across arrogant. Been coming here 20+ years. Miss the latino siblings who knew our typical orders.

The company has made a lot of money in our community and decides its to much hastle to deiiver good food.

They need to sell to someone who provides a service to the community. The food has definately gone down in quality and taste. Its sad but true this place has lost its magic and its flavor.
