We always visit the Fish Market when in Old Town. Wonderful chowder and friendly service make it one of our favorites.

I found that the food was great, but the quality of service was not that good at all. The waitress was sulky and was reluctant come over and assist us for a long time, even though they were not that busy. I am very understanding and forgiving if someone has a bad day, but they need to look at their staff and try and get them to cheer up a little. Again, the food is fantastic value and tastes great!

The staff is unfriendly, uncooperative, and incompetent. The food may be OK but in this economy you can do much better at restaurants more appreciative of your business. Especially in old town where there are at least a dozen better places to eat within a blocks walk there is no need to waste your time here.

Fish Market has been the place for a nice seafood dinner for years until a few days ago. Our dining experience on July 3 had us change our minds about going back to this place ever again! The service by a waitress named Jessica had been very poor (it took a long time to get drinks and food). Our requests to check on our order were met with irritation from the waitress and Jesse, who turned out to be general manager, bluntly stated to my husband when he tried to complain that "he should be happy to be alive and sit next to his family". This sounded like a threat rather an effort to mend the situation. Perhaps, if we were in a war zone, we'd be delighted with any kind of food we could find but having gone out on a dinner in Old Town, we did have higher expectations. There was also evidence of corner-cutting such as smaller size of bread rolls, and no horse radish with oysters, etc. It sounds like the restaurant in under new ownership since the spring and the quality of food and service has gone downhill. And the restrooms are indeed filthy. On the way out, Jesse, the general manager, looked my husband in the eye and told him to not come back to the restraurant. We will certainly heed Mr. Commando's advice. No more Fish Market for us.

So you pick your restaurants based on bathroom cleanliness? The fish market is a staple in old town Alexandria. So much tradition. I love it.

The food a the fish market is fine - not great, but not horrible. The thing that got me is how disgusting the place is -- I mean truly dirty. The bathrooms were worse than what you would see at a truck stop. The floors and stalls had obviously not been really cleaned in weeks, if not longer. We used to love the Fish Market but the filthy surroundings will keep us from going back. Gross.
