My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times in the past year. Excellent food, quiet atmosphere so you can have a real conversation.

We didn't want to wait at another nearby restaurant so we thought we would try Bistro Bistro. I now know why they had so many tables available on a Saturday night. The FOOD IS AVERAGE at best and the SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. Everyone in our party got their salads except me so I asked the waiter -- he thought I wanted mine with my meal. He then brought my salad (after everyone had finished their salads.) The entrees arrived for everyone but me. I again asked the waiter where my meal is -- he asked me what I ordered!!!!!! Again after everyone had finished their entree he brought mine. With no apology he acted as if everything was just dandy. I don't know how a restaurant like this stays in business. We wanted to complain to management but apparently there is none. PASS ON THIS MEDIOCRE RESTAURANT.

Went to Bistro Bistro on Valentine's day, and they had a special
menu. My wife's trout was ok. I ordered the lobster, which was served
over angel-hair pasta. The lobster was inedible - it smelled like it
had been sitting out all day, and was terribly dry and tough.
The service was equally bad - the waitress never came to see how
our food was. I eventually had to find the manager on my own and tell
him how bad the food was.
I asked for the check, and not only had they charged us for the lobster (I hadn't eaten any of it), but they had charged me for two beers (I only had one).
After again speaking to the manager, they removed the lobster from
our bill (at first he offered to take off half of the cost of the lobster).

Bistro Bistro in Shirlington went through a major change...of sorts.... I went there a week ago for dinner, and the place was empty (I know why now). The restaurant is very nice in terms of decor, very clean, and very well decorated - European, but with a hint of Indian. It is cozy and nice. In the past, Bistro was an American version of a French bistro. I'm French, so I think I'm qualified to judge here.... The establishment/food was 80% American, 10% French, and 10% in between. For my last visit, the whole staff was Asian. The staff was attentive and tried hard to be professional and competent, but somewhat failed. When I ordered the steak they waiter never asked me how I wanted it cooked; I had to tell them and they almost acted surprised. The dressing in the Caesar salad was watered down and not very tasty. It was served on a regular plate with a few croutons, which would have been fine for a local deli, but not for a real restaurant trying to be upscale. The mussels were a day or two past their expiration date. We returned the dish and explained to them why, and they didn't quite seem to understand what we were talking about. When I got the bill, not only had they charged us for the 'bad' mussels, but they charged us for the wrong dish.
In my opinion, and I've been to quite a few restaurants, here and overseas (Europe, Africa, Asia...), it appears this restaurant is run and managed by owners and staff who previously owned and operated a Chinese buffer restaurant. Don't mean to be critical or racist here, but that's what I unmistakably experienced. Given that this was the day after Thanksgiving maybe this was the only available staff, but based on my experience, on that day, I would avoid Bistro Bistro altogether. I didn't get a fortune cookie after the meal, so perhaps that's one 'plus' on their side!

The food was terrible, but that at least is a step-up when compared to the service. I asked the server a simple question about an entre, and she answered in an almost proud way, "I have know idea", instead of going and asking the chef. I was then served my entre about one minute after my soup. I asked the server to take away the entre and that I did not want her to just place it under a heat lamp because that would just dry out the meat. Of course that was not done, and she returned with the same piece of meat, this time it was well done instead of medium, and it tasted even worse than it looked. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!
