We have all our special events at Faryab
And we are always satisfied The food is delicious!
After being invited there, many of our friends return and make this their favorite restaurant.We highly recommend it.

Food is great and place is charming if unspectacular in decor. The issue is that since they hiked the prices some four years ago, it is no longer the bang-for-the-buck spot. It used to be a top cheap-eats place with AMAZING food for the price. The food is still the same, just no longer the bargain. Sadly, I typically would rather spend that money elsewhere and get a better meal in a better atmosphere.

If you try the spinach-lamb dish or the lamb kabobs, there is no way you could give this restaurant a low review. The rice pudding is also excellent, and the portions are normal unless you are a glutton. There are maybe a couple of dishes to avoid, but most of them are excellent. The other reviewer was unlucky or picked badly. I should point out that I am very picky about restaurants. There is one Burmese, two high-quality (clay oven) pizza joints, and this Afghan that meet my standard for a reasonable price. That is in ALL of the DC metropolitan area. I consider DC to be a miserable place to eat, so this place really stands out.

This restaurant is overpriced. The food was interesting but not particularly exceptional, or hearty. I had the fried squash with meat sauce. 4 pieces in an appetizer. So it's more of a fine dining experience, and I was looking for something more low key, with a bit more privacy in the booth/seating area. What made the break for me was the quantity of food, really. Very little for your money's worth. There were good dishes, and I left without hunger. But I would like a different quantity.

The lamb had capers mustard tomato red pepper and a thick brown sauce. It was tasty, but not especially flavourful. The rice was slightly dry, and the bread VERY dry. Perhaps it is meant to be that way though. Again, poor portion servings. The mere idea of paying $130 for a "full meal" is preposterous, and their baklava is very dry and untasty. I like mine dripping honey syrup and roasted almonds.

On the other hand the lamps were very nice to the ambience. And the service was acceptable. The place a little on the austere side.

And as much as I would like to try the much-drooled over pumpkin dishes, I think I will not be returning since there are other places I enjoy much more.

We enjoyed dinner for 4 at a fixed price of 120.00 This included reasonable servings of appetizers which were 3 types of vegetable and meat dumplings. Dinner was lamb and chicken kabobs along with a lamb and spinach dish. Rice and side salads were included.
We enjoyed tasting the 3 desserts of rice pudding, baklava, and a pastry.
After finishing our carafe of wine and enjoying our tea, we all agreed that it was a wonderful meal and felt like the experience was terrific. (The service was very friendly although slow, so keep that in mind when making your plans.)
