My wife and I went to Wakefield Tavern for dinner today (Wednesday Aug 25, 2021), but they were closed. Before heading out I checked their website"¦no mention of being closed. According to their Facebook page, they are open. Recommendation: if you are not open for the day, please update your websites. Thank you.

I have been to Wakefield Tavern about four times now and the first three visits were great. However, my last visit was downright horrible. I am a CCH (Concealed Carry Handgun) holder and I am a LAW ABIDING citizen. I was openly carrying my handgun because it is the only LEGAL way to carry in a restaurant in NC that serves alcohol. There was also NO sign posted at the entrance that prohibitated FIREARMS inside the establishment as well. I ate my dinner and was on my way out the door when I was approached by an employee (not the manager, although she was standing right behind the employee). He asked me if I was a law enforcement officer (I said no because I am not), He then told me the following: "I don't think you are allowed to carry that in here becasue we serve alcohol". I replied "I am LEGALLY ALLOWED to carry as long as I don't consume alcohol" (which I did not, I had a soda). He also said that a customer had complained because I was carrying and that he/she "was taken back when they saw me carrying". He then told me next time to let management know before I eat my dinner. I am not LEGALLY required to inform him that I am carrying. He won't have to worry about it because there won't be a next time. I felt like I was being harassed just because I am exercising my 2nd amendment right. I am a LAW ABIDING citizen and I find it very distasteful that their establishment would show this sort of ignorance to a paying customer who has done nothing wrong. For those of you thinking about eating in this establishment be warned they are a ANTI Constitutinal and ANTI Second Amendment establishment that is completely IGNORANT of the Laws in North Carolina in which they operate.
