Grillstone, Scotch Plains
I made a reservation for July 19 via open table for high top table in the bar area where the band would be performing. The reservation was confirmed via text on July 18. Unbeknownst to me, my sister had increased the reservation and confirmed it on July 18. We arrived and were told that they don't honor reservations made via open table on nights when this particular band is there. I was told that it's first come/ first served. As a business owner I don't have time to sit around for hours to get the seating that I desire....I make reservations. I'm 53 years old going to see a local band... not 25 years old hoping to see Beyonce. I wonder if they expect their white patrons to come in 3 hours early to get a table instead of making a reservation. So, being that I'm a long time customer, I was hoping that I would be treated as such. However, I was confronted by a very rude and aggressive "manager" named BRIDGET who wouldn't even look me in my eye as she continued to interrupt as I was attempting to have an adult conversation. Then there came a rude and condescending fellow, JOE, who claimed he was one of the 'owners" but turns out (per front host SARAH ) that he is not an owner at all. (There was another female "owner", I didn't get her name, as SARAH refused to confirm the name when she figured out it was due to dissatisfaction) So, I thought that I had rapport with the one manager whom I've known for at least 7 years, but in this tough situation CJ refused to even acknowledge my presence. It's times like these when one knows how much our patronage is valued. I love to support my musician friends, but I will only do so at establishments that show respect and value me as a customer. Hopefully the actual Grillstone ownership will read this review and reevaluate their policies. I would also love to see Black entertainers make sure that these venues treat their supporters with the same respect and dignity that they show the non-black patrons.
