review_stars 09/14/2010 - fred
went for lunch. Service was very good until the end. Nothing on the menu for me (my fault, I'm a vegie and it's rural Alabama). Salad bar was $6 and the buffet was $8, seemed reasonable, so I went ahead and got the buffet since it came with tea and I thought the cost would be about the same as getting the salad bar plus the tea, right? Well when I got my salad (very few items and boring iceberg lettuce) I checked out the buffet but there was nothing I could or wanted to eat - just fried meats and overcooked vegies with meat! in them (cause down here they have to put meat in all their vegies to give them 'flavor' - because they overcook the heck out of them!). I could have had mashed potatoes (pure starch) with meat! gravy - no thanks. So anyway, I just had salad - that was ok, but then my bill with a couple bucks for tip was $13!!! I asked the 'lady' at the register (who seemed to be the boss that day) about the amount and she said that it was because I had salad with the buffet and that was extra!!! (since when does salad, attached to the buffet table, become extra anyway?) I said ok but that actually I only ate the salad so................ I guess it was my ignorance that I, and my guests, thought that she would make the leap to offer that I should only pay for what I ate - the salad. Doesn't that make since? She just looked at us like we were stupid and I guess I was. But not stupid enough to go back there again. And I know several people who go up that way fairly often, including coworkers, and they'll definitely hear my story. And there's really only four places in town to eat anything decent (well, three now). And the food at this place is not even that good - nobody in our party even finished theirs (and, no, they weren't full either). In fact, after looking at the buffet, they ordered off the menu. Tip - go to Radley's, the catfish house or the mexican place instead.
