Hi there. I am probably biased because I work here at the Islander, But I can't eat ribs anywhere else.. I am going to let Michael and Kathleen know about all of the wonderful reviews they have gotten. As for the person that said it took 2 hours to get your food.. First off the summer you came was one of the nicest summers that I have seen in this state.. So you are dealing with a lot of people at the same time. This is the only restaurant and bar left on the lake. With the small kitchen and small staff we do the best that we can to make you comfortable, relaxed, and entertained. Also we are on an Island in the middle of the lake.. We can not just call in more help. Some times two waitress' and one cook can't handle over a hundred people. I am sorry that you had a bad experience and would love it if you would give us another try.

We are not in a rush because good food from scratch takes time to come out perfect. I could go on and on.. But just remember sometimes you have to slow down and enjoy life and live on Island time for a day. :)

I am excited to return to work this winter (been on baby leave) and see all of my loyal customers and hope to see new ones..

Again thank you for your reviews

Beth

The best food in Alaska, the ownership/management are truly the kindest, unselfish people I was blessed to have befriended. A must go to restaurant if you are in the Wassilla area

Two things, this is the best food, best service, OK three things, and best ownership you will ever find in a restaurant. I live in New England, I have ate at fine restaurants in New York City, Boston, and I truly believe Cathleen is better than any chef around. She makes everything, the salads are AMAZING, best steak I ever had. I would eat there every night if it wasnt such a long ride. I will be back, I have some unfinished business to attend to on the pool table. Not only great food, but great entertainment, thank you Mike and Cathleen, I love you guys like family, SEE YOU SOON!!!

The best ribs you have ever had. The bones just pull away, the meat is so tender. Also, the tempura prawns are huge and delicious they also serve more than just a couple, its 6! The salads are gourmet, not just some iceberg lettuce w/a tomato wedge and some olives, its the works. So take a drive an you will see that it is well worth it. If your in a hurry....go to a fast food place. If you have time to enjoy your companions, the friendship of others, and the "lake" hospitality, GO TO THE ISLANDER!

This is an excellent place to eat. The owners are gracious, they make good food. It is unusual that it would take 2hours to serve food. The person who made that comment was probably from Anchorage and use to eating at some box-store restraunt who marinate their steaks in giant garbage can like tubs on wheels for days at a time and use sodium soaked water in similar type cans to soak their salad leaves instead of real restraunt cooking. Huh. Stay in Anchorage.

DO NOT EAT HERE. Took 2 hours to get our food, manager made lame excuses, tried to pacify us with 2 beers (NOT EACH TOTAL). DO NOT EAT HERE.
