JoJo, If your review was so negative, why give them 4 stars?
I've gone to garden club for years and it seems like it's gone down hill year after year. The menu has been reduced, prices have slowly climbed and the staff has changed. It's like the owner has changed and the current owner is cutting corners. To bad cause it used to be the place to go to for a nice evening out..

Haven't been there for dinner in a while. The service, wait staff and amount of food for the price were all very good. Got there at 6:30. There was no wait time. The menu has changed. The selection was so-so. The sauce on my veal was bland. There were very few canned mushrooms underneath the meat. My husband and son had the scallopini. The gravy on it was not like most restaurants. A little disappointing. Other than that we enjoyed our meal.

With a group of 20+ at dinner, the tip is 18% including the cost of dinner with the tax. This is the restaurant's policy. With a bill of $300+27.00 tax (example), the tip is based on $327. The tip is $54 tip. Whereas the tip should be $48. Who cares about $6.00? Some patrons don't want to pay TIP on the sales tax. I favor the Japanese way of NO TIP and the payment of a living wage. The Garden club tip policy favors the employee but that night Garden club lost 20+ customers. My father-in-law told me. "Garden club doesn't care about a few customers because they already paid." My reply is Maybe, but that night may cost them 20+ customers and the "do not patronize" to 2000+ other people and so on. This is America.

At lunch, we had their specials and enjoyed a meal with good service. Until a group came in, our server abandoned us for the group. Her tip (if she is reading this.) immediately got reduced.

My method is the start of 15% at pre-tax amount. For every infraction, the tip goes down by 5%. At a San Francisco restaurant, lousy service -5%, lousy food -5%, and disatisfaction -5%. After paying the bill, the hostesses asked about a tip. I explained in Cantonese, lousy food and lousy service means NO TIP, and we aren't coming back and we tell our friends not to patronize you too! Welcome to America.

Garden Club is not inexpensive and my wife felt the place is too dark.
