This was my absolute favorite restaurant in Hayward, and one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in the entire SF Bay Area for many years. I suspect this restaurant was a victim of the 2008 economic collapse, and so was another of my 3 favorite restaurants in the SF Bay Area EVER (I was born and raised here--since 1972 these 3 places were THE BEST!!) and not a day goes by where I do not miss this tiny little French restaurant run by a couple who were warm, friendly, kind, and had an amazing relationship with each other as well as an amazing restaurant worth visiting as frequently as possible.
The escargot was amazing. The veal medallions were my favorite. There was not a single dish on the menu I did not absolutely love. I wish I knew the names of the couple who ran it so I could send them a thank you note for all the amazing meals and good memories. If they ever re-open a restaurant like this again, I need to know because no one could hold a candle to this tiny little Hayward secret, and I miss the couple who ran it AND miss the ambiance and food so much it hurts.
RIP A Street Cafe--please message me if you exist now or ever anywhere in this world because I would give anything for another night in your eatery.
