Chowder lukewarm with many potatoes and very little. Clams. Flounder sandwich had. Sharp bones, with very little fish. Won’t be going back!

Food was awesome, service was good. Prices are very reasonable.

Food was terrible. Greasy and very expensive for what you get. Will not go here again.

review_stars 01/19/2022 - Needs New Management
Use to be the highlight of our visit to Kure Beach(now that costs you just to park, big bucks!) But, the manager is a jerk and the seafood is lukewarm greasy mess, and the hush puppies aren’t even cooked through. We will be visiting Myrtle Beach from now on! Delicious food (seafood) and doesn’t cost so much to park!

We were there the last time we came to CB. They seemed lax on COVID-19 protocols. Not a mask to be seen on any of the servers.

We ordered two admirals and they didn’t give us all six items that come with our order! I called and ha do to run back up ther which cost more gas and no one thinks about that do they! I think this will be the last time I order from this place! This is three times I have had issues with this restaurant

Called in order to be delivered and two(2) hours later still no food NO delivery. We attempted to call the phone number provided and got a continuous busy signal. Finally drove up to business and once inside
we were told they had taken the phone off the hook. Our food was sitting on the counter and the person running the register stated “We thought you were picking the order up.” Why would we give you an address and no name if we had not requested delivery.
Food of course was cold and not good.

I would not recommend this restaurant!

I have been going to this resturant for many years for about the last year not sure what's going on but has gone down hill. There food use to be great, not anymore! Went there tonight got shrimp cocktail, it states on the menu jumbo shrimp a half pound. I received 5 small shimp! When I called I was told they have the tails still on and they are bigger than the fried shimp! Lol what a joke. Not worth the time and money will not be going back no more!!

I have lived all up and down the east coast and unless you are in a fishing village...you are an idiot to think you will get fresh seafood at any other than anEXtremely $$$$place. NO_ONE uses fresh seafood at any tourist type rest. They cannot afford it snd keep the price where u will buy it. Bowman's, I doubt has local seafood but it does not matter because they have the BEST you will buy at that price in CB and the family is the nicest.
If you want fresh seafood pay, oh, oysters $22/dz, freshflounder $ $20 plate...Bowman's suddenly is a deal and thy are the best.
After living at the coast, all I can say is learn about what you want and be happy to pay for it. Kwitchyerbitchin....

I have been to Bowman's many time since the early 90's,I don't know what has happened to the service & food quality, but as of 8/17/10 my LAST visit I found they only served 2 kinds of fish ( flounder & whiting ).This is suppose to be a seafood restaurant, should have been more than 2 kinds of fish, since I didn't want either of those,I ordered oysters. When I got them they were over cooked & about half size of a woman's thumb(dry as a bone & no flavor at all).My wife ordered a rib-eye sandwich, she said it tasted old & was horrible.I didn't see the waitress anymore( there were only a hand full of customers there.I didn't get my tea refilled not once because the waitress never came back.We only left a $2.00 tip but that was $2.00 too much.I wouldn't invite anyone to eat at this place,I know I won't ever stop my car there again.Bowman's Seafood Restaurant is the bottom of the pits in my book. The rest of our stay at Carolina Beach we ate out of the Food Lion just as you come over the bridge on the right at stop lite. They have a much better selection of all kind of goodies.By the way I was told by one restaurant employee that most of the restaurants down there get their seafood from elsewhere, not from there, that means frozen stuff, you can also get that at Food Lion.I am not going to rate this place,it doesn't deserve a rating of any kind,I don't think I could find any rating anywhere that low,It's just the pits,so people go to McDonald's down the street on the left,it will be better & a heck-of-a-lot cheaper,.It's up to you if you want to waste your money.I have learned my lesson,I'll stop at Food Lion on my way in.This place is a Big Joke for a seafood restaurant, they should close it down.

Bowman's is a terrific place for a low-key, seafood dinner. The service was excellent, the food was fantastic, and the prices were reasonable given the amount the food you get. It was a busy time (dinner hour) when we were there and it was quite busy, but that did nothing to impact the service. The food came SUPER fast, however, it was almost too fast-- so much so that it seemed as if the food was prepped before we arrived, but again, the food was great! We will definitely eat here again!

review_stars 04/12/2010 - whatintheworldhappened
What in the world happened to this place? It used to be so yummy and now it is poor quality and WAY over priced. Go to food lion next door and get some Mrs. Paul's. More fresh and better bargain.

Outstanding experience. We actually were there last August and the food was excellent, and plenty of it. Looking to go back this early spring. We arrived about closing time and they were gracious enough to let us in and stay as long as needed.

Horrible restaurant. Food is terrible. We all had the Devil Crab and could not find or taste crab in it. Tasted like fried bread. There was no difference between the hash puppies and the Devil crab. We went there for crab and could not taste crab. After having the devil crabs, the devil in me came out to write this comment. But have to be reasonable - bathroom was extremely clean.

Friendly and efficient server . Food was served quick , too quick for it to have been made fresh. Deep fried shrimp and deep fried scallops 13.95. Too pricey for food that is precooked and then flash fried for quick service. I hab pulled pork BBQ , pork was spoiled and they provided vinegar for BBQ sauce. Wife is currently feeling the effects of this awful dinner and I am not too far behind.Sch

I'm like a couple of other critics here. I had eaten here for years, but my last visit cured me. No more, never again. The seafood was mediocre, and the slaw was AWFUL! It used to be really good. We came kinda late, and during our meal, an employee was running the loudest vacuum cleaner ever made right under our feet and next to our table. We didn't feel very welcome. And..,oh yeah, suggestion to Mr. Bowman, or whoever- Take down the "We Buy Gold" sign out of your RESTAURANT window and just open up a jewlery store or something.

This place use to be good. Not so anymore. Just don't waste your money. The food is poor quality, WAY overpriced and the atmosphere and staff are the pits. There aren't many choices in this area, but you'd be better off at the Pizza Hut next door.

My wife and I discovered Bowman's when we first visited Carolina Beach and we LOVED it! This is by far on of the best Calabash-style seafood places I've been to in years. The hush puppies are sublime, the seafood is fresh and not fried too long, and the sweet tea is perfect. I grew up in Chesapeake Bay, and I recall a similar (but larger) establishment that my parents would take me to. The service up front is great and the workers have a blast with each other (lots of good-natured ribbing and teasing) and that's part of the charm of Bowman's; it's a comfortable place where you always want to return. I highly recommend sitting at the counter, because it is full-on entertainment. We're going back next week, and it will be the first place we hit when go out.

Lastly, as any restaurant review there will be a few naysayers, but I am shocked and surprised to see the negative reviews here. Don't let them dissuade you. Never had bad service or bad food at Bowman's. Plain and simple, this place is legendary.

We have eaten here for years, but never again. It has gone downhill in quality, and the employees/ owner act like they just don't care. They atmosphere has never been much, but the food use to be really good. The prices are outrageous for what you receive. One small piece of flounder, eight shrimp, six scallops a tiny, old potato and gross slaw was $15. Frozen chicken tenders and fries is over $10. Any place with a "we buy gold" sign out front should be avoided for dinner. Don't go.

We have eaten at Bowmen's frequently and the food is awesome the staff is the friendiest folks you can meet. The amount of food you get for the price is unbeatable. We order the commander in chief's platter and LOVE ever bit of it. The tea is great southern style sweet tea as it should be. The hushpuppies are the best anywhere. This restaraut is a must visit if you come to Carolina Beach.

I would not visit Bowman's again. The service was really good. The food was not very good at all.

review_stars 04/04/2008 - MenuPix User
The hushpuppies are great, the cheese sticks are fabalous!! I got shrimp, scallops, and oysters. They were good, but I have had better. But the best thing about the entire place is by far, the cole slaw!! What is in the slaw?? Drugs??!! I'm completely addicted to the stuff. Ordered extra at the table, and ordered two pints to take home!! We are going back to Carolina Beach next month, and the first stop with out a doubt will be Bowman's for the exceptional slaw!!!

Good Food but a lil pricy!!

review_stars 08/30/2007 - Likes seafood, what was this?
If you like soggy, overpriced, tasteless, fried, breaded bread served by staff who feels that you are lucky to get what you get when you get it so shut up andf like it, then you will love Bowman's. Go for tea and hush puppies but have your meal elsewhere.

The last week in July 2007, my family and friends were in Carolina Beach--our very first time to the area, for my son's wedding. In the week that we were there, we ate at Bowman's 3 times. Could not get enough of it.
A few of the reviews, I was sad to read and feel sorry that they did not enjoy their experience. Our service and food was excellent! And that is why we kept going back. Very good, alot of it and reasonably priced for the huge amount we were served. Yeah, the parking was very tight, but hint people: any place that is completely packed, is packed for a reason. You definitely want to go there.
It takes us 6 hours to drive to that area, but would gladly do so to eat dinner there, I tell ya.
Keep up the good work Bowman's! We love ya!

review_stars 08/09/2007 - feelin ripped off
Bowman's was the first place we ate upon our arrival to Carolina beach and aside from how disappointed we were with the price as we whipped out the $60+ to feed 2 adults and 2 kids including the 18% gratuity non optional for or less than deserving waitress we we're constantly reminded about how much of a ripoff the food was for the rest of our trip as we visited other establishments throughout or trip. Bowman's had fried everything, skin left under breading (gross!), soggy fries, horrible parking and ridiculous prices. To be fair the hush puppies we're really good and the deviled crab was alright but truthfully wasn't worth it overall. Could have done a lot better with the $60 bucks. Will never visit again.

review_stars 08/06/2007 - TONY
Bowman's at the beach has very good food and fast service. The hanburgers melt in your mouth. The grilled checkien sandwich is awsome. . Bowmans is very much a valued place to eat. THE SEAFOOD IS ALSO GREAT!

review_stars 07/15/2007 - Martha
My husband and I went to Bowman's for lunch. I had the fried flounder which came with a choice of rolls or hush puppies, a vegetable, and a side. My flounder was extremely thin and had the skin left on under the breading - not the most appealing piece of fish, but it was OK. What was not OK was I asked if I could have the rolls instead of the hush puppies, and the waitress rudely walked away and said very loud "if you must..." followed by an annoyed sigh. To her credit, she came back to the table with both items, and stated that I obviously had never tried their hush puppies. They were pretty good as far as hush puppies go, but they have never been my favorite thing. We left still feeling hungry and feeling very uncomfortable with our waitress. The prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere mediocre.
We would still not go back.

This is a great restaurant in Carolina Beach!!! The food is amazing and you get ALOT of it for a low price. I eat here everytime I am in town (I come from Michigan just for Bowmans!) The servers are always friendly and the value is great. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a small beach town restaurant :)

This place is excellent! Huge portions of fresh seafood for not so huge of a price! Service was excellent and prompt even though this place stays packed. Parking is a bit tricky.
