Tracy (8/14/09),
Your reviews are not consistent with any of the other reviews. Not only is the food good at all of the restaurants that you mentioned, but the service, at a minimum, is good. You sound like one hard to please cookie. Maybe next time you should just stay home!

Hoping for a nice meal, we tried Dixie Grille, hostess cleared the wait list, but never called us and only said "I'm sorry". Tried Deluxe next door , but was never greeted in a near empty restaurant. Decided we couldn't go wrong at Cafe Phoenix. After being seated by a pleasant hostess, our party of four ordered water and a beer to start. We watched the server wander the floor and up the stairs restocking glasses, while the bartender texted. I finally asked the bartender for four glasses of water, he looked confused and said he would get them out and the server was still wandering. Waiting for some semblance of service, I stood up and then heard the bartender say "they apparently need water". Needless to say, we left and heard the brilliant bartender say "you have a nice day". We were followed by a nice person carrying 2 glasses of water not knowing where she was taking them. I asked her who the owner is, she just said "Roy something". I've always known who signs my paycheck. All in our party were/are servers and are still pretty upset that some call this service. The bad thing about this is anyone askes, I won't say this restaurant, but will tell about the last time I was there. Still trying to find the owner. The guitarist was the brightness of the debacle.

Atmosphere very modern and clean, service was A+, and food was delicious. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and didn't even have to wait in line! Love the showcase of artwork on the walls...In summary, Cafe Phoenix is what a downtown restaurant is supposed to be like!
Got the turkey panini -- it was excellent and definately would go back just for it!
The panini bread was grilled to perfection, crispy on the outside but warm and soft on the inside. The dressing they used on the sandwhich was outstanding!
The cafe makes most of their salad dressings, each one wonderful. The only drawback was $$$. For $10.00, I got a very small side salad and small panini sandwich -- no side came with the sandwhich (I guess they classify the salad as the side?). It would have been nice to had homemade chips, fruit, or something else along with the sandwhich; then the price would have been worth it.
The olive oil and bread they serve before the food arrives was simplistic but also delicious.
I have only been to Phoenix for lunch. Glancing at the menu, prices were a bit steep for dinner, therefore, my next visits to Phoenix will always be during lunch hours.

My husband and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary. It was very hip and chic, very relaxing. The hostess was very kind and our server was fantastic. The food was delicious, although a little pricey. I would recommend this restaurant.

Went for Sunday Brunch. Ordered the Chorizo con Huevos. It looked pretty but tasted funny. Sent the waitress back and learned they use Italian sausage instead of chorizo. This is wrong on several different culinary levels.

We're from Ohio. Found this place on the web. Food was delicious, colorful and well presented. Wine list is LARGE with many by the glass. Dessert was great
Don't miss it..
